Most of us are quick to complain about our ever- buzzing, bleeping, blinking cell phones that are forever sucking our time and attention. According to a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive with 2,179 adults, 59 percent of American workers will check their e-mail over the holiday season. Of those, 15 percent say they will actually be relieved when they have something in their in-boxes that will distract them from the guaranteed awkwardness of family drama.
For a recent BrandTube, we wondered how people would react if Santa gave them the gift of one week without a cell phone. Would they accept this gift with open arms or tell Santa he can shove it?
For Boomers and Millennials alike, the gift of a week without a cell phone was nearly unfathomable. Isolation from the constant connection of their cell phones seemed more like imprisonment than vacation. We might as well have taken away all their friends and their paycheck, too. Respondents were so intertwined with their phones, it was hard to untangle life from phone and phone from life. Someone remind us again, how did everyone survive before the era of the cell phone?
